Hydrology
The Hydrology Section is responsible for collecting and providing hydrologic information to the public and other agencies, including design hydrology studies and hydrologic data. The hydrologic data are collected through our extensive network of rainfall and stream flow gauges in Ventura County. The section checks the data and makes them available to the public. The network also includes the Flood Warning System gauges that provides real-time data during storm events. The Section identifies potential areas of flooding using the gauge info and a variety of flood forecasting tools, and makes that information available to other Emergency Services staff in order to better protect our citizens. The Section also performs statistical analyses on the rain and stream data, does land development hydrology study reviews, and updates the hydrology models and manuals used to evaluate runoff in the County.
